FOX31 Denver, reported a “mysterious” camera that was, “positioned to capture and record the license plates and facial features of customers leaving a Golden Post Office” – has disappeared within an hour of it being observed.

The camera has been at that location since at least Thanksgiving 2014, so far a Federal Law Enforcement agent has denied the use of such a camera. However the Postal Inspection Service hasn’t either denied or confirmed the implementation of the camera. Some groups such as the Electronic Frontier Foundation have been challenging federal agencies that have been surveilling citizens without a warrant – sometimes in mass.

A Federal audit in 2014 found the Post Office apparently had, “insufficient” controls in place when allowing law enforcement agencies access to the data that was collected from a “mail cover” program.
